The CIMIL - Creative, Intelligent & Multisensory Interactions Laboratory of the University of Trento (www.cimil.disi.unitn.it) is welcoming expressions of interest for a PhD position in XR technologies. We are seeking a motivated PhD candidate interested in working as part of the MUSMET - Musical Metaverse made in Europe project (https://musmet.eu/), contributing to the development of XR systems for musical interaction within a large-scale European consortium, from industry to academia.

The candidate will work on the design and implementation of Mixed Reality platforms supporting real-time multi-user musical interaction, with particular relevance to Mixed Reality scenarios where musicians perform with real instruments and audiences engage simultaneously across physical and virtual spaces.
A key area of exploration will be the use of generative AI for 3D content to enable dynamic environment and avatar generation within networked immersive platforms.

Successful candidates will have hands-on experience in building VR, MR, or AR applications (with at least one demonstrable project) and a strong passion for the field.
A masterโs degree in computer science or related fields is required.
Interest in computer vision, and/or generative AI for 3D content is highly valued Interest in music and music technology is a plus but not a requirement.

The place of work is the Department of Information Engineering and Computer Science of University of Trento, Italy.
The starting date is the 1st of November 2026, but it could be anticipated in the summer.
The duration of the contract is 3 years, with a net salary of 1.600 EUR per month. An abroad period of 3 months is mandatory for the PhD programme, with a salary increased by 50% in those months.
