Hi! I was wondering if any of you have already tried the Meta Quest 3S and how it compares to the Meta Quest 3.

I currently own a PS VR2, and I’ve been researching different VR headsets. From what I’ve seen, the Meta Quest 3S seems to be a more affordable version of the Quest 3, possibly with some trade-offs in display resolution and build quality. It still features the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 processor and full-color passthrough for mixed reality, but I’m curious if there are noticeable differences in comfort, performance, or tracking.

I’d love to hear firsthand experiences—does the 3S feel like a solid alternative to the Quest 3, or are the differences too significant?

Hi @Frabarbato

Sorry for the late reply.

We’ve had the chance to try both the Meta Quest 3 and the new Quest 3S, so I can share some first impressions.

You’re right that the Quest 3S is positioned as a more affordable version of the Quest 3, and overall it feels like a solid entry point into standalone VR—especially for those who don’t need all the premium features.

The main difference lies in the display & optics: The resolution is slightly lower on the 3S, and while it’s still decent, the visual clarity and lens quality don’t quite match the sharpness of the Quest 3. It’s noticeable in text-heavy content or apps with lots of UI elements.
If you use passthrough & MR, the 3S keeps the color passthrough feature, but with a bit more visual noise and lower fidelity than the Quest 3. It’s good enough for casual mixed reality experiences, but if MR is a major interest, the Quest 3 still offers a better experience.

If you’re already used to the PS VR2’s image quality and comfort, the Quest 3 might feel closer to that level. But if budget is a key factor, the 3S still delivers a surprisingly good experience—especially for standalone use.

Hope that helps!
