XPOTLESS: Get to know the #OC2

Proposal Acronym: XPOTLESS

Proposal Title: XR experience for Training cleaning and disinfection Safety practices in the agrifood sector

Proposal Summary:

XPOTLESS is a project developing an immersive VR training system for the agrifood sector, focusing on safe and sustainable cleaning and disinfection procedures. This system provides a personalized, adaptive learning experience, allowing operators to practice critical tasks in a risk-free virtual environment, improving compliance with food safety regulations and optimizing resource use.

Key Objectives:

  • Immersive Training: Simulate real-life cleaning tasks, including handling hazardous chemicals and operating machinery, in a safe virtual setting.
  • Emotion-Based Adaptation: Use emotion recognition (analyzing voice and posture) to detect stress or frustration and adjust the training in real-time for personalized support.
  • Adaptive Learning Process: Implement Flow Theory to dynamically adjust task difficulty based on the operator’s performance, ensuring engagement and skill progression.

How It Works:

  • Simulated Workday: Users follow a narrative mimicking a typical workday in a meat processing environment, progressing through preparation, task execution, and final evaluation.
  • Real-Time Adjustment: Emotional monitoring adapts the training pace and complexity, ensuring operators receive appropriate support to enhance learning outcomes.
  • Interactive Tools: A hand detection system enables intuitive manipulation of 3D objects, providing a realistic and engaging training experience.

Impact & Benefits:

  • Enhanced Safety & Compliance: Provides a risk-free environment for mastering complex cleaning processes while adhering to EU hygiene standards.
  • Personalized Skill Development: Adapts to individual emotions and progress, optimizing learning efficiency and reducing stress.
  • Industrial Adaptability: Supports the digitization of the food processing sector and upskills workers to meet evolving industry demands.

Dear XR2Learn Community,

We are excited to share the latest progress on XPOTLESS, our innovative solution for competency assessment using XR technologies (Augmented Reality / 360° Scenarios, Virtual Reality, and Artificial Intelligence). Over the past month, we have been working intensively on several fronts:

:white_check_mark: Product image design: We have defined the visual identity of XPOTLESS, including the logo, graphic lines, and initial communication materials.

:white_check_mark: User interface development: We have made significant progress in designing the user interfaces for the AR and 360° application, ensuring an intuitive and device-friendly user experience.

:white_check_mark: Analysis and integration of enablers: We have thoroughly studied the XR2Learn enablersXR2Learn-Software-Enabl…D3.4-XR2Learn-Enablers-…(especially those related to training, inference, and personalization) to fully leverage their capabilities within our solution. We are currently working on integrating these enablers to personalize the learning experience based on the user’s emotional state.

:white_check_mark: Artificial Intelligence training: We have begun training initial models for emotion classification, following machine learning and self-supervised learning methodologies aligned with the Personalization EnablersXR2Learn-Software-Enabl…D3.4-XR2Learn-Enablers-….

:white_check_mark: Creation of virtual assessment environments: We have started building the virtual scenarios that will form the evaluation experience, designed to simulate real working situations and objectively measure competencies.

Our next steps include finalizing the virtual environments, connecting the personalization modules, and implementing the first functional versions of the full experience.

We are moving forward with great enthusiasm!
We look forward to your feedback and suggestions to continue improving XPOTLESS.

XPOTLESS – Development Progress Update

We are pleased to share recent progress in the development of our XPOTLESS solution:

  • User Interface Design: We have made significant strides in designing user interfaces for both our mobile(AR) and virtual reality (VR) applications. These interfaces are being shaped to ensure intuitive and effective interaction for learners in various scenarios.
  • Mobile Application: The development of the mobile app is advancing well. We have already completed two essential modules:
    • Login System: A secure and user-friendly authentication system is in place.
    • 360° Environment Viewer: Users can now explore immersive 360-degree environments, which will serve as a foundation for contextual learning.
  • Virtual Reality Application: We have officially initiated the development of the VR application. The first training scenarios are already being assembled. These scenarios will serve as the foundation for the upcoming practical training modules that will be deployed in immersive VR settings.

We will continue to iterate and refine these components in alignment with the personalization enablers and authoring tools defined by XR2Learn.

Looking forward to further collaboration and feedback from the community!

We continue to make progress in the development of our virtual reality environments. This week, we will visit the ASINCAR Center to carry out the 360-degree recordings. In the meantime, we are building the enabler that will facilitate the recording of customized gestures for their subsequent use with XR Interaction and OpenXR.

Great to hear that development is moving forward steadily! The upcoming 360-degree recordings at the ASINCAR Center sound like an important milestone — looking forward to seeing how they enhance the realism and contextual depth of the VR environments.

The gesture recording enabler also sounds promising, especially with its integration into XR Interaction and OpenXR. Custom gesture support will no doubt open up more natural and personalized interaction possibilities, which is a big win for immersive learning experiences.

Keep up the great work, and feel free to share any early demos or results — we’re keen to provide feedback and continue supporting your progress! :100:
